How An Inefficient HVAC Can Hurt Workplace Productivity

Learn how an inefficient HVAC can hurt workplace productivity.

Having an inefficient HVAC is not only costly to the budget but it can also have a big impact on workplace productivity. You may not have made the connection before, but there is a direct line from one to the other. If you neglect the maintenance, you’ll find that your HVAC will start to show signs of stress and wear. Read on to learn more about some of the ways inefficient HVAC can hurt in the office.

Air Quality

When your commercial HVAC system isn’t functioning efficiently, it can have a negative impact on the indoor air quality of your space. When that becomes compromised, it can affect the health and wellness of your employees. More sneezing, coughing, and days off lead to a decrease in productivity. People will experience more headaches and overall discomfort because the air quality isn’t promoting their health.

Comfort

People who are too hot or too cold have trouble concentrating at work. When the HVAC isn’t running efficiently, it can become difficult to maintain a set, comfortable temperature throughout the building. It’s distracting as employees will then start to take their own measures to try and achieve comfort. Research studies have shown that the optimal temperature to maintain in the office is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In that temperature, the studies reported an increase of 5-10 percent in productivity. If saving money is the issue, consider using a programmable thermostat so you can set a schedule for when the building is occupied and when it’s not.

Employee Morale

People who feel happy, supported, comfortable, and heard at work can spend their time concentrating their efforts on their daily tasks. Working in a clean, comfortable, safe, and healthy environment allows people the freedom to collaborate, share ideas, and be creative. An HVAC system that runs efficiently allows that to happen because it facilitates all those other factors.
